Nikolaos Konstantinou

Brief Role in the Project: Virtual communities’ specialist
Ionian University

Dr. Nikos Konstantinou is an ICT teacher at Secondary Education. He has worked extensively in the private sector as a computer and network engineer. He holds the title of Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) and was responsible for the design and setup of computer networks. As a teacher, he has implemented many programs, such as environmental, cultural, and e-twinning (a digital interconnection program for members of the educational community to develop collaborative projects in Europe). He is teacher trainer in programs within the Operational Program "Human Resource Development, Education and Lifelong Learning", entitled "Training of Teachers for the Utilization and Application of Digital Technologies in Teaching and Learning" managed by Computer Technology Institute and Press "Diophantus"(C.T.I), in collaboration with the Institute of Educational Policy (I.E.P.). He obtained a Master's Degree in "Virtual Communities" from Panteion University. He holds a PhD in 3D Digital Learning Environments and has experience in designing and developing gaming learning activities. He has teaching experience in higher education as an academic scholarship holder and adjunct lecturer in the Department of Sound and Visual Arts of the Ionian University. He is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Audio and Visual Arts at the Ionian University in the research field of participation and the attention economy in online virtual environments. His research interests range from educational technology, game-based learning, virtual learning communities, and the programming didactics. He has published extensively in international journals and conferences on the use of 3D digital learning environments, serious games and gamification as educational tools, as well as teaching digital programming through digital games. He has participated in research projects such as: Development of General and Special Educational Material in Entrepreneurship issues and Innovation: Developing virtual business and virtual exercises platform for the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Unit of Ionian University. Postgraduate Program: "Virtual Communities: Sociopsychological Approaches and Technical Applications". PhD dissertation on the topic: "Three-dimensional Virtual Worlds as Environments of Experiential and Collaborative Learning".
